Values and strength

Did you ever think about the connection between values, strengths and efforts - in a psychological sense – and how this can help you being more successful?

Brett Steenbarger wrote an article relating to this interesting topic in his Blog.
There, he points out, that our values represent what is important to us and that our strengths are similar to our talents and skills.

If our efforts fit with our values and strengths it will motivate us. Thus we increase our chance to reach our goals. We will get into a working “flow” and be happy with what we are doing, because what we are doing and how we do it fits our personality.

Comparing this with trading techniques, you can see that it is useless trying to trade a system, that doesn’t fit you.

For example

Imagine a trader, who tries to use a mathematical based trading system, that merely gives him technical signals and that doesn’t include the condition of the market or daily news. But our trader has his strengths in reading and understanding the markets and in making analyses. He is really good in understanding complex connections.
The system he tries to trade has been successful for the one, who created it. But our trader will get in a conflict, cause he won’t be able to just relate to those technical signals. He will think and analyze very much and miss signals or trade them to late.
For him it is necessary to learn about his own strength and to search or create a system, which fits to him. Then his chance to be successful will be much higher.

The same is true for all of us, we need to make sure, that we love what we do, so it is probably not a good idea to trade that fancy technical trading system from the last magazine review…
